Lean & Agile Portfolio Management

45:25
Traditional portfolio management does not work. Or - let’s say - at least „any more“. I believe the traditional approach, i.e. * to plan a multiyear roadmap of projects, initiatives or actions * then apply for budget, get the approval and then to commit to the roadmap * then to implement the portfolio has serious issues in today’s fast paced environment. In this presentation I will explain my problems with the traditional approach and offer an alternative: Lean and agile portfolio management. For that we taken proven concept from agile software development and apply them to IT program and portfolio management. I have successfully implemented this approach which allows a portfolio manager to more agile his/her portfolio of IT projects. Moreover, effort for overhead activities is reduced and the process to select potential project ideas becomes leaner. At the end of the presentation I will also discuss challenges to implement this approach and ideas on how to move ahead.

My $1,000,000 Stock Portfolio: Investing Strategy & Philosophy

I’ve had many people ask: “What is your investment strategy and philosophy?” While I’m by no means an “expert” on the topic of investing, I can share what I’ve personally done and what has been working for me. There are many other people that are more qualified and ideal to follow than myself. However, through my transparency, perhaps you can learn from some of my successes and wins, and it can give you a behind-the-scenes look at what a $1,000,000 investment portfolio looks like. Before you watch the video, a few things to note: This isn’t my entire portfolio. This is just within my holding company. I own personal investments as well, that include cash, stocks, bonds and a real estate rental property. When you make a lot of money in your business, you’ll want to create a “holding company” to protect and hold your money, which gives you flexibility when it comes to investing and for tax purposes. I live in Canada and I invest in the TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange). The primary currency I trade in is Canadian dollars and primarily investing in the Canadian economy, as I understand it the most. However, I do have investments in U.S. dollars and outside of Canada as well. I’m no “expert” by any means. I’m just someone that has learned through reading books, having mentors, and through my own trial and error. There are still many things in the investment world that I don’t understand. However, if you can benefit or learn from my transparency then that’s great! ★☆★ VIEW THE BLOG POST: ★☆★ https://projectlifemastery.com/my-1000000-stock-portfolio-investing-strategy-philosophy/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=blog-post-promo&utm_term=my-1000000-stock-portfolio&utm_content=lc-youtube-description ★☆★ SUBSCRIBE TO ME ON YOUTUBE: ★☆★ Subscribe ► http://projectlifemastery.com/youtube ★☆★ FOLLOW ME BELOW: ★☆★ Blog ► http://www.projectlifemastery.com/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=homepage-promo&utm_term=my-1000000-stock-portfolio&utm_content=lc-youtube-description Twitter ► http://www.projectlifemastery.com/twitter Twitter ► http://www.twitter.com/stefanjames23 Facebook ► http://www.projectlifemastery.com/facebook Facebook ► http://www.facebook.com/stefanjames23 Instagram ► http://projectlifemastery.com/instagram Instagram ► http://www.instagram.com/stefanjames23 Snapchat ► http://projectlifemastery.com/snapchat Periscope ► http://projectlifemastery.com/periscope iTunes Podcast ► http://www.projectlifemastery.com/itunes ★☆★ ABOUT PROJECT LIFE MASTERY: ★☆★ The Project Life Mastery YouTube channel is the place to be for motivational, inspiring, educational, and uplifting self improvement videos. 2016-08 Best Practices for Managing a Digital Innovation Portfolio

01:01:12
Nils Fonstad, SM ‘96, PhD ‘03, Research Scientist, MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research (@NilsFonstad) Sean Belka, SVP & Director of Fidelity Center for Applied Technology, Fidelity Investments (#SeanBelka) Michael Nilles, Chief Digital Officer, Schindler Group & CEO Schindler Digital Business, Schindler Group (@MichaelNilles) Christopher Paquette, Partner, McKinsey & Company (@paquettecm) Derek Roos, Co-Founder & CEO, Mendix (@MendixCEO) Many global companies are feeling growing pressure to rapidly respond to local business demands. MIT research has found that IT units are supporting these demands competitively in two fundamentally different ways: (1) reusing technology and business components, and (2) engaging in off-platform experiments. In addition, to practice both types of innovation simultaneously, they are engaged in new collaborations with internal and external stakeholder groups to create a simple and relevant set of reusable components; foster their reuse; and engage in and learn from experiments. This panel discussion with leading CIOs will explore best practices for managing a portfolio of innovations.

Project vs. Program vs. Portfolio

04:01
For any professional working on projects, it become very important to understand the difference between project, program and portfolio to better manage each one of them. KnowledgeWoods – PMP® Global R.E.P. & Microsoft® Partner, has been working closely with professionals worldwide for their PMP® Certification and Competency Development Initiatives. In this KnowledgeWoods video, we are going to explain what is a project, program and portfolio. Key Topics -: 1. What is a Project, Program and Portfolio. 2. Differences between Project, Program and Portfolio. 3. How these initiatives are important from an organization perspective. The relationship among portfolios, programs, and projects is such that a portfolio refers to a collection of projects, programs, subportfolios, and operations managed as a group to achieve strategic objectives. Programs are grouped within a portfolio and are comprised of subprograms, projects, or other work that are managed in a coordinated fashion in support of the portfolio. Individual projects that are either within or outside of a program are still considered part of a portfolio. Although the projects or programs within the portfolio may not necessarily be interdependent or directly related, they are linked to the organization’s strategic plan by means of the organization’s portfolio. This KnowledgeWoods Video is a part of PMP® - Project Management Professional Certification Exam Preparation Content. For more details, please visit:- http://www.knowledgewoods.com

Portfolio Management Tools

03:40
Go to https://www.sebasolutions.com to learn more about Dr. James Brown, project management and leadership speaker. Professional keynote and project management speaker and author, James Brown highlights Chapter 10 of The Handbook of Program Management. As the project management profession matures, the number of automated tools that claim to control and maximize the value of the organization’s portfolio of projects increases dramatically. While there is nothing wrong with these tools, my observations and experience lead me to believe that many organizations are not ready for a sophisticated portfolio management tool. Why? It is because a lot of organizations haven’t yet mastered the basics of portfolio management. Before any tool is purchased and rolled out, the basics must be in place. Basics like putting all the projects in priority order does not require a fancy tool. Lets quickly define a portfolio. A portfolio can include multiple programs, and/or the projects within a single program can be a portfolio. A portfolio is just a logical grouping of projects under a common leadership structure. Buying a fancy tool is no substitute for discipline. No tool should dictate the course of action. Tools are just inputs to the decision maker’s judgment process. Any tool should ensure thoroughness, and structure the information in a way that allows the decision maker to make a decision. This includes helping the decision maker know what information is firm, what information is fuzzy, how the information was processed, what information was excluded, and what the tool may recommend. The decision maker then must assess all the input before factoring in his or her experience or intuition and making the actual decision. I believe value based decision making, using the analytic hierarchy process is the best practice for establishing priorities among projects and have helped several organizations in both the public and private sectors establish value structures, managing portfolios that have exceeded $1 billion as well as very small portfolios. During the process, I often encounter two types of decision makers: One type is scared to death that the tool will dictate the outcome without his or her judgment, and the other is scared to death the tool won’t dictate to him or her the exact course of action. Remember, tools are there to provide structure and an accurate representation of all the factors relevant to the decision, not to dictate to the decision maker or to relieve him or her of responsibility. Even though a tool may provide a recommended list of projects, the judgment of the decision maker should prevail. is with the decision maker not the portfolio management tool.

How Do You Financially Manage A Multi-Property Portfolio? With Ben Everingham

22:22
How do you financially manage the cash flow of a multi-property portfolio without losing track of income and expenses? If you have a property portfolio with a large amount of properties in it, it can be very difficult to manage the finances of those properties. You are talking multiple loans across multiple different banks, incoming expenses coming from everywhere. So, how do you financially manage a multi-property portfolio? So today, I brought on Ben Everingham from Pumped On Property, who is my buyer’s agent of choice, but who is also a very successful investor who has achieved financial freedom himself and has a large portfolio of properties. Ryan: How many properties is it now Ben? Ben: Yeah, we are not going to talk about that but it is definitely growing. Ryan: Okay. So, it is somewhere around the 10-property mark, I think. Is it? ------------------------------------------- http://onproperty.com.au/373 - View the full transcription and audio version of this episode. http://onproperty.com.au/free - See real positive cash flow property listings

Frank Wolak | A portfolio approach to managing reliability risks in renewable energy investments

50:29
"A portfolio approach to managing reliability risks in renewable energy investments" Frank Wolak - Director, Program on Energy and Sustainable Development; Professor, Economics, Stanford University Energy Seminar - April 11, 2016 Wind and solar generation units produce where and when the underlying resource is available. For given the technology, how much output is produced in an hour at one location is likely to be highly correlated with how much is produced at another location. By locating renewable generation capacity taking into account this correlation, a far less volatile aggregate output stream can be obtained. This talk uses hourly location-level wind and solar generation output and real-time price data from the California ISO control area for a one-year time period is used to compute the vector of means the contemporaneous covariance hourly output and revenues across all wind and solar locations to examine the extent to which potential exists. This information is used to estimate an economic model that is used to compute the annual hourly output and annual hourly revenues mean/standard deviation efficient frontiers for wind and solar resource locations in the California ISO control area. For both mean/standard deviation efficient frontiers, economically meaningful differences between portfolios on the efficient frontier and the actual wind and solar capacity mix are found. Most of the hourly output and hourly revenue risk-reducing benefits from optimal choice of locational capacities is captured by a mix of wind resources, with the addition of solar resources only slightly increasing the set of feasible portfolio mean and standard deviation combinations. The risk-adjusted maximum expected hourly output portfolio and the risk-adjusted maximum expected hourly revenue portfolio are computed and in both cases, the weights for these portfolios are found to concentrate capacity on a small number of existing wind and solar locations. Recommendations for the design of renewable energy support mechanisms and interconnection policies to provide incentives to realize these reliability benefits will be discussed.
