We set out to test the top six RX 580 models offered by MSI, XFX, PowerColor, Sapphire, ASUS and GIGABYTE to see which one will be the king of kings in mining.

download nicehash miner and try again, Don´t pay to much attention to the Mh/s because it depends on witch algorithm its on. You need to pay attention to the USd/day ratio. You should get about 3 to 4.5 usd/day
Excellent video !! I´ve the same gpu and I tried to get the same MH/s but I´ve a problem I can´t modify the voltage on my afterburner is disabled :S , could you help me? There´s a special configuration in afterburner ?? Thanks
@BtR I just finish building my rig, and so far have only 1 GPU plugged in, and no OS installed yet. However I wanted to get your input. I plugged a 6+2 connector cable into the 8 pin slot and when I went to turn the PC on, the GPU started running its fan at full speed and does not slow down. So I removed the 6+2 pin cable and plugged it into the 6 pin slot and the fan slowed down to normal. I do not have the Windows 10 installed yet, and wanted to know if I have to plug both 6 and 8 pin together? Or should I install Windows OS first before installing the GPU. GPU is Aorus rx580 8gb extreme. Thanks
it is normal for the GPU to run at full fan speed with it doesn't have OS to tell it what to do. Your first step software wise is always to install the OS, so yes please leave all but 1 GPU connected to your motherboard and install that Windows 10. You only need to supply power to the 8-pin power input while mining, although we suggest you connect both the 8-pin and the 6-pin while you are setting up and flashing the GPU (if you intend to flash). Also, there are several things you need to do in Windows to make sure the auto update stops and auto driver installation for your GPU stops and to make sure to exclude your mining software folder from virus scans....needless to say, we are making video(s) about things to do when mining with Windows OS.
AORUS RX 580 8GB and AORUS RX 580 XTR 8GB are different models, XTR is the "Extreme" version and uses Samsung RAM, where the regular AORUS RX 580 8GB model may use Elpida RAM. The only way to find out is to buy it and check it using GPU-Z or HWinfo64
Beyond The Routine yes I saw that the 1060 was just about to release 4 gigabyte and a 8 gigabyte 1060 only about $60 more so yeah cautiously optimistic my funds have been running out I broke my back last year at work last June has been on bed rest and working 4 hour shifts ever since I finally said to heck with it workman's comp is not being any Halep as of yet so yeah that's one of the reasons why I'm selling some of my stock and instead of just selling my stock from the stock market and paying bills I'm actually going to build some mining rigs so yeah after they pay themselves off that will be the money income. that being said I can't get into surgery using my own insurance until December 5th so hopefully I can get these set up quick I heard the new 1060 4 gb is will be getting 30 megahash I'm really stoked for that hopefully I can purchase 12 of them so I can make 2 rigs. Once again thank you so very much and I'm super stoked I've already got these the 1060s 3g So I'm actually just waiting on my motherboard and my Risers and my 1200w power supply. do you think the 1200 watt power supply will work with 1060s 4G. It's the same one I bought for my 1060s 3 g. I would say wait a few more weeks both NVIDIA and AMD are releasing dedicated GPUs for mining, which might make it easier for you and others. Also, we are making a video on RX 460 and RX 560, both are super cheap, readily available, and mines at between 13-14 MH/s but also consumes less than 50% the power, and the RX 460 doesn't even need additional power input, the power from the PCIe slot is enough...you've got options. A regular GTX 1060 3GB I would advise against.
Beyond The Routine Omg thank you so much I found a great card stock at 20 mh supposably. But it is a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1060 3g. So what do you think about this gaming card? have you had any experience with it?
I can confirm that Gigabyte 580 is a good card for mining. I have a rig with the small gigabyte auros which are mining at 29.4 mhash, (60 deg with 45- 60% fan speed) and 105 watt power consumption. The memory errors that happen occasionally can indeed crash the system but rarely. It crashed on me 3 times in the past week so I downclocked mem a bit.
Only problem I have though is that only 5 of them are working on win 10, any1 know how to get 6 up and running?

So download gpu-z, check the vram, it will say Samsung, hynux or micron. Im pretty sure all gigabyte rx580 8gb cards have samsung but dont quote me on it. If it is samsung flash it with the 1750 strap. "Beyond the routine" has recently uploaded a video on how to do it, cryptomined also has one. Once thats done get msi afterburner and downclock the gpu core to 1120, and overclock the ram to 2125... I get a smooth 29.3 mhash per card at 106 watts power. Also check the driver, with 3 cards might not need a mixed driver but incase you do look up Cryptomined windows 10 fix.
Hi, Andro (and Beyond The Routine)! Can you tell me how did you achieved those results in that specific card ("small" aorus rx580 8gb)? I just bought 3 of those cards, but I can´t find any good materials or tutorials on how to "mod" it to mine that results. Please, can you guys help me?
Yeah I have that driver, till now I thought it didn't work however I just finished checking all the risers and 3 of them are faulty 2 of them with mem controller fluctuations, causing the occasional 25 mhash reading and one of them outright didn't work.
Noob question here. When you make adjustments using MSI afterburner, do the settings save to the card? Or do you need to open After burner everytime, and adjust it? If you have multiple cards, and you adjust each one independently, how does that work>
Afterburner will remember your card's settings. You do want to set Afterburner to start with Windows and you would want it running while mining. When having multiple cards, you can choose to unsync the setting in Afterburner, that way each card's setting is independent from one another.
I can't wait until you test the PowerColor model as that is the card I have. (My son bought it for me and I am going to pay it off on his interest free card over next six month with part of the pool mining rewards and hopefully get another card assuming that this is not a bubble on the Ethereum price valuation).
Great series so far. The audio was louder which is cool as the laptop I use to browse has poor maximum volume.
I do have a request.
At the end of the series could you retest all cards; one at a time, in a single day, with the computer unplug from the Internet, using the -benchmark mode with current epoch number. This would insure, the exact same windows 10 version/build and video driver. Also can you show the watts at the wall before mining and also while mining as the delta would show a relative hash to watt performance across the cards.
My son says I am always overthinking stuff, but I am into the whole "all others things being equal" idea when testing.
I should probably search your channel before asking, but I would love to see exactly how you tune a card or two. I have not done the BIOS mod yet and have only been playing around in Wattman and have gotten my card to 26.88Mh with only one or two memory errors a hour. How many memory errors are acceptable. When I got it over 27Mh I was seeing1000's of errors an hour but was getting a few more shares from the pool even though I would see no new work from pool across multiple temperature reports (does this mean it is stalled?). Also, do you have to patch the drivers after the BIOS mod and what BIOS mod version do you use?

Thanks for the feedback, it is very thoughtful of you. And your request is very reasonable so we will give that a try. It is normal to see multiple temperature reports without new work, as the temperature report is on a timer and the new work isn't. We do sometimes have to patch the driver, the rule is always check before you press that restart button after flashing the modded bios. We use Polaris Bios Editor 1.4 to mod the bios.
When you get to the XFX card, you may find this useful for BIOS modding (If you draw Hynix memory). https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/comments/6emhvo/issue_with_bios_modding_xfx_rx580_8gb/ I know it saved my bacon and it took me almost an entire night to find this information and the correct strings to mod the bios.
I'd love to see your results tabulated in the end. stock core/memory clocks, power consumption & MH, then same for your optimized settings.
Also can you discuss variation between video cards of the same model? I'm thinking you put in so much effort to find differences of less than 1 MH between these 3 models so far, but if you got 3 MSI, 3 Asus, 3 Gigabyte, wouldn't there be similar variance within groups as well?

There will be variance within groups, especially when you are trying to squeeze every bit of hashrate. We will be posting all of our findings and settings as well as bios (original and modded) at the end. Our judging criteria isn't purely based on hashrate though, each card will be graded based on also cost, ROI, power consumption, temperature, ease of tuning. At the end of the day, the reason why we picked these cards specifically is because they are supposed to represent the top, the best, both in quality and performance, from each of these six manufacturers. We wanted to see if top gaming performing cards will translate to top mining performing cards, as these top models are designed to be more overclock friendly, and essentially we are overclocking the cards when we mine...

It's really unbelievable that no one is exploring this billion dollar market due to a simple mining-oriented GPU, something simple to do, it's practically done, nothing makes sense to me. Maybe because they are managed by engineers, or outdated investors ... who knows.
Great video as always. I can see that you also have standard Aorus which is cheaper, smaller and way easier to get. Could you please share the amount of MH/s it mines?
Edit: btw. that copper plate on backplate is just a marketing bullshit. It has been proven that with and without backplate temps are different by ~1C, so it's more likley due to the entire backplate, not that plate under core.
Our regular AORUS RX 580 4GB cards are mining at exactly 30 MH/s, and all we did was copied the 1500 timing to the 1625/1750/2000 and set the following in Afterburner: -96 mV core voltage, 1150 MHz core clock, 2050 MHz vRAM clock.
