Which software are you using to mine monero
Son of a Tech (10 months ago)
+Redgrin Grumble think same thing happened
Redgrin (10 months ago)
new build, new gpu, too much to drink and too little sleep. I was thinking piezoelectric speakers, like for post. back in the day before leds we had piezo buzzers on boards. turns out my UPS was overloading, and next to my build, and as soon as I started mining, it would drain the battery on my UPS turning on its alarm. I shut down the mining and the battery could charge and the beeping stopped. the next morning, sober and rested it took me 5 seconds to see it.
Dimo Dimov (10 months ago)
Lol, GPU beeping :) I wonder what kind of speakers it has ;) Hope Sony!

Hey, Nice video. Thnx for trying to provide info and help. Question: if i have option to get 4 gb version of same card how much would it matter regarding hash rate?
Son of a Tech (9 months ago)
+Tann hashrate not much difference provided clocks match

Hi, awesome video! By using the "XFX AMD Radeon RX RX-580P8DFD6 8GB Triple X Edition", do you think performances will be comparable? Thanks
Moudy Raies (11 months ago)
Hey this card has 2 options on stock one for games and other for mining so switch bios then try again and let us know the speeds
Moudy Raies (11 months ago)
XFX Dual BIOS Mining Equipped for gaming and mining We know enthusiast like options, our RX 570 and 580 graphics cards are shipped with a Dual BIOS. If you want optimal gaming performance just install it and go. For cryptocurrency mining, simply shut the system down and flip the BIOS switch on the card. Our mining BIOS is already tuned to give increased mining hashrates without hassle.

MSI RX 580 4GB Elpida or GTFO! Runs cool, low power, same hashrate.

"little bit of extra money " equals to double the price
Venus flytraps (11 months ago)
Vertcoin yeah
John Braman (11 months ago)
how can you tell which memory the cards have?
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
+P.J ^^^
P.J (11 months ago)
Plug your card in, and run TechPowerUp GPU-Z. It will tell you if you have Samsung, Micron or Hynix memory. You only have to worry when you mine ETH-like coins with the Hynix. Else it's quite ok.
CarNaya (11 months ago)
5:39 "the performance has gone down because the difficulty has gone up", referring to the low hashrate. Difficulty has nothing to do with hashrate, right? It does affect profitability because it's harder to mine a block, but not hashrate. The hashrate has gone down because of the AMD drivers not dealing well with the increasing size of the DAG file. There is a fixed driver for that.
CarNaya (11 months ago)
Ah yes, got confused there for a second. Nice follow up video
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
I stated wrong there, It was a drop due to DAG, but not AMD drivers. However they fixed it with the blockchain driver. Which was used for testing. To get 29mh/s+ I did this follow up as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE2D9xABhKY Thanks!
PG (11 months ago)
Hi, thanks for the report. Did you use the blockchain driver from August 23? I am getting over 30Mh/s on my [email protected](2125MHz on memory) with BIOS mod. It was about 5Mh/s less without the mod IIRC.
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
+Zdeněk Eisenhammer bios mod how to tomorrow. And yes on driver vs. Also 29mh/s now. I did this as kind of an intro to that and to keep things in perspective.

How can i cash out ethereum without coinbase or Kraken? they both don't seem to be working for me.
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
gdax
iamdmc (11 months ago)
Long story short: RX 5xx and 4xx are obsolete newest series cards mine much better
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
+iamdmc after bios mod they pull 29 or so at 80 watts pretty solid imho
iamdmc (11 months ago)
and as difficulty goes up your returns go down worse on old hardware than new
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
+iamdmc I think there's still an argument for power consumption to hashrate
Curtis Jordan (11 months ago)
Do your rx580's have the 1500 timings on them? My new ones from Gigabyte did.
Robert Lindflott (11 months ago)
I just ordered 2 new XFX RX 580's from Amazon a couple of days ago and I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival. Meanwhile, I've been doing some research on the XFX RX 5xx cards. What I find is that XFX, being the innovator you described them to be in this video, has implemented a "Dual BIOS" on their entire line of RX GPUs. There is supposed to be a small switch near the power connection that allows the user to manually switch the card BIOS from the default gaming mode to a factory pre-optimized mining mode. I'm just curious if you made this BIOS switch setting on your card or not. Your numbers seem low compared to what others are getting. I ran across a few users' comments on various sites that claim they are getting ~30 Mh/s mining ETH just by making this simple BIOS switch, and installing a new (but unsupported) AMD mining optimized driver. No other tweaking required. Also, I want to thank you for all of your many excellent, helpful videos!
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
+Robert Lindflott so I was working on the flashing video and did try this first. It's about 26mh/s. With a flash I am able to obtain 29.5. Sorry I missed the bios switch. Derp on my part there.
Haha just noticed, love the orange on the shelf!
Bitter Raven Vapes (11 months ago)
Major misconception in this video.. saying that a 580 is historic in the very early days of ETH mining.. ETH has been around since 2014 and has been popular to mine since day one.. when it launched we were mining it on HD6970 2GB cards.. when it launched we were mining between 100 - 200 coins per week.. problem was it was 2000 ETH = 1BTC = $500 usd , When XMR launched people switched there rigs to that... but when ETH hit $10 a coin they switched back, you were still able to mine ETH up until dec 2016 on a 2GB card.
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
+Bitter Raven fair enough. I should have said during the "gold rush" earlier this year
Rallenhayestime (11 months ago)
Sweet! I just bought 2 of these cards!
Duncan St. Clair (6 months ago)
I have 2 also. I just added my second today. How many hashes are you getting? Im up to about $2 per day? Im getting about 577Hs or about $2 per day on AwesomeMiner. Thanks in advance.
Trickst3rZer0 (11 months ago)
Im a bit confused ive seen some of your videos and it has helped me greatly in understanding different alt coins and such however, you mentioned "switching to the green side" on zcash and another coin, is there other coins we should be aware about that isn't the best option for AMD? In addition, which coin would be best suited for AMD at this current moment (11/26/17), i know that prices change every second, i just dont wanna get the rx 580 and use nicehash. Appreciate the videos, dont stop pls. Keep up the amazing work and transparency .
Trickst3rZer0 (11 months ago)
Ah great thanks a ton!
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)

Weldopedia (11 months ago)
i wonder why rx480s out-perform the rx580s...
Weldopedia (10 months ago)
if rx580s had blower fans, i would buy them. So far I have seen one offering by MSI and it is extremely rare and at this point, I would like to start buying things with 3 years warranty.
Jafan Fauzi (10 months ago)
Son of a Tech so my xfx rx580 8gb gts xxx edition oc+ runs at 31,5 mhs and i have 6 of em, switch to dualmine eth+dcr i got 31.3mhs 940mhs. Will this be worth it? With of course the power consumption increase. I have been mining for 12 hours, a newbie, need an advice from someone experienced like u.
Son of a Tech (10 months ago)
+Jafan Fauzi when you switch to dual mining your hashrate will drop. So test then run through a calculator
Jafan Fauzi (10 months ago)
Son of a Tech so lets say i have 6 rx580 8gb with total hashrate of 180 mhs should i go for dual mining or just eth?
Son of a Tech (10 months ago)
+Jafan Fauzi ethash still
abbas z (11 months ago)
That's the card I wanna use for my new rig for mining ETH. Do you suggest? Or should I go for a different card? With some tweaking you think you could hit 29 mh/s with this card?
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
the guide to get 29mh/s releases Tuesday and the answer is yes
invrplayedb4 (11 months ago)
The watts is including the motherboard as well? Or is it just on the 580?
invrplayedb4 (11 months ago)
Son of a Tech no that's fine man I was just curious wanted to make sure I was thinking correctly
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
I should clarify that's total system. I did in the previous review and there should be an annotation. Sorry for not being clear.
Captmorgan4101 (11 months ago)
Hey man you need to look into Cast XMR my RX 480's are doing over 1000h with memory mod.
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
I have been and looking at the XMR bios mod as well
iPark (11 months ago)
I just bought 12 msi gaming x rx 580 cards but i cant overclock them, when i try to overclock the memories the eth hashrate drops from 23 to 19, any ideas?
Al Bee (11 months ago)
Well, there are tons of tutorials out there... also it isn't that hard. (I haven't killed one single card yet) You just need to have luck with the cards you bought. Some just won't give good results even with bios modding. Here are some links for you. https://cryptoyeti.com/msi-rx580-armor-8g-review-and-bios-mod-guide/ http://1stminingrig.com/best-bios-rom-sapphire-nitro-rx-580-8gb-oc-hynix-memory-30-mhs/

Dylan Williquette (11 months ago)
Hey man, just thought you might like to know there's people reporting 1000h/s for Monero on the 580's using the new CAST miner, similar to how some people are setting up their vega 56/64 cards without flashing bios. Here's a video for better example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYhGGWdeOuw

Craig Mullins (11 months ago)
Do you have a video or blog post about what is best software to use with what coin, video card, OS, Etc.? Do you have any info on what the best setup is for each coin? Do certain video cards work better with certain coins? Seen any excel spreadsheets on how to compare price of video card, vs power draw, vs how much you make?
Rallenhayestime (11 months ago)
Craig Mullins I'm interested in that as well

Hey I'm a noob to this space, I have a older PC and looking to do some hobby mining until the beginning of next year when I will start to actually build a rig. If I were to buy the Rx 580 would I come close to those has numbers 20 Mh/s Ether etc . Or would I need more equipment, I'm not expecting alot as this will be a hobby but I was just curious before I buy this card ? If you need me to buy through any referral links I will gladly do so, just let me know, I can also give you the specs of my computer if need be.

Trevor Jex (11 months ago)
Could you make a video that gives suggestions for beginners to get started with mining? For example, how good of a graphics card do I need for it to be profitable, what's the best coin to mine for beginners, what software do you recommend (especially for Linux users) for getting started? I see all these crazy expensive rigs, and they're cool, but I'd like to just mine as a hobby if that makes sense
Son of a Tech (11 months ago)
I have a long list of videos that I check off like a task list. A lot of these ideas have been covered or are on that list. Be sure to go through my backlog for more help.
